‘Defiance’ players get a second chance to meet Nolan, Irisa

Before the first episode of “Defiance” aired, the MMO shooter was already in full swing. In fact, the game let players meet a couple of the show’s main characters, Nolan and Irisa, in special episode missions. The missions were removed when the show debuted, but today, Trion Worlds announced that the missions will return this weekend.

‘Neverwinter’ developers compensate players for rollback

After a serious exploit was discovered over the weekend, Cryptic Studios brought the “Neverwinter” servers down. The exploit was serious enough to warrant a rollback to the servers. Today, the developers fully addressed the exploit and offered up a survivor pack to all players in a patch.

Trion Worlds introduces the free-to-play Loyalty program for ‘RIFT’

In June, “RIFT” will go free-to-play with an optional subscription. The transition is shaping up to be a smooth one for returning players, a valuable one for a free player, and a rewarding one for a subscriber. Patch 1.016 now available in ‘Defiance’

welp, iron skin got nerfed. i’ll never get to play warframe with my husband again. i don’t blame him, though. there’s no reason a rhino shouldn’t be invincible during iron skin. perhaps the duration should have gotten nerfed instead of making it just an 80% damage reduction.

‘World of Warcraft’ patch 5.3 release candidate on public test realm

Horde and Alliance both are watching the public test realm for the release of “World of Warcraft’s” 5.3 update. The patch, called “Escalation,” will set the stage for the infighting among the Horde while adding new scenarios, a new battleground, and more. I like Warframe… a lot. But I don’t like the alert system in general, and I despise the idea of locking a frame or a weapon behind it.

I support plenty of free games; I’ve got a disposable income and I write about games for a living. It’s a good match and I love to buy things for fun games. With the next frame’s release, Vauban, I don’t think I’ll spend any more cash on the game.

Vauban will only be available to purchase with real money or through BPs. Blueprints are great! I don’t have to spend much money that way to get a new frame (just the cost of a slot and a supercharge if I want it, each like 20 platinum). Unfortunately, though, the BPs are only going to come from ? alerts. Something random and worse than RNG, in my opinion.

First off, the alert system punishes a player for not playing the game rather than encouraging a gamer to play. I feel like gating a new weapon and frame (pretty much the meat and potatoes of the game) behind the alert system is:

A) lazy - instead of adding a new area or boss to farm the BP or the component BPs just make it part of an alert

B) greedy - it feels like you’re strong arming players into outright buying the frame because they have NO control over when an alert happens or if they’ll see it

C) uncreative - a lot of free games do this; adding something with no lore or reasoning behind it

D) not motivational - instead of being excited about the new frame or weapon, some folks see that it will be a pain to get without buying it and just bail

E) unnecessary - with the way slots work, DE’s going to get money from you anyway if you want to seriously collect frames and weapons (even if you never spend a dime on a frame, you’re going to have to spend money to house that frame, period)… compounding that to an already long farming repertoire or, in this case, a random set of alerts that players miss just by sleeping, can really make you hate a game quickly

Moreover, I think the prices of frames are a little… odd. Some are overpriced while some are not. I think $5 (75 plat) is about right, but $15 is kind of silly for something with four abilities. Perhaps if the frames weren’t so oddly priced, I wouldn’t be so disheartened about a new frame being out of my reach. I’d just pay the $5 and everything would be cool.

Patch 1.016 for ‘Defiance’ delayed, no release date yet

Fixes to contract cycling, pursuit tracking, client side crashes, and more were scheduled to patch with update 1.016 tomorrow. However, Trion Worlds announced today that the “Defiance” patch will not be going live as scheduled.

Five new areas added to ‘The Lord of the Rings Online’ with today’s update

Update 11, entitled “Treachery of the White Hand,” is now live. “The Lord of the Rings Online” patch was updated to the servers early this morning adding a few new zones to the game, a mounted combat revamp, and Hobbit Presents.
